The River Mimram chalk stream flows through a twelve mile-long valley in the centre of Hertfordshire. It rises near Stagenhoe, north of Whitwell and flows through Whitwell, Welwyn, Digswell and Panshanger en route to its confluence with the River Lea at Hertford. The geographic features of the area can be found on Google Earth and on Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps 1/25000 scale:
No 182 – St Albans and Hatfield;
No 193 – Luton and Stevenage;
No 194 – Hertford and Bishop’s Stortford.
